THE COMING ATTACK

THE COMING ATTACK BY ISLAM WILL BIGGER THAN 9/11

When al-Qaida does launch its next attack inside the U.S., as the U.S. government suggests, "it will be much bigger than 9/11."

The 22-year CIA retired veteran Michael Scheuer, who headed the agency's secret counter terrorist unit, argues that while our government in Washington has talked a "good talk" about security; America remains seriously vulnerable. Scheuer cites the federal government's failure to secure the borders, especially the U.S.-Mexico border. "We haven't done the basic things to protect Americans to the greatest extent possible – and that is domestic border control," he says. As a result, almost six years since the Sept. 11 attacks, America's law enforcement still does not know "who is in the country and the pool of illegals increases by the hour."

Today, terrorists could strike with ease if they so choose. Scheuer points to the port of Houston, which could be easily targeted because of its refining operations.
On the global front of the war on terror, Scheuer offers a similar pessimistic view because the U.S. has never exercised the full clout of the "military option" to put down the insurgency in Iraq and deal with terrorists elsewhere.

Simply put, the U.S. is too worried about what Europe thinks of our policies and has not risen to the challenge we face from Muslim extremists. His solution: We need "to kill off more of the enemy.” The comment may seem "callous," but it is the best way to deal with an enemy that plays by no rules that the west understands.

While President Bush says we are fighting the enemy in Iraq so we don’t have to fight them at home and yet the enemy is illegally invading this country by the hundreds every week. This does not give me the impression that the goal of American politicians in either party is to do what they are constitutionally bound to do and that is to protect America from any kind of invasion. They are more concerned with what international opinion thinks of us as well as with making sure that they can win the next election. If our government doesn't exist to protect the future of America, what does it exist to do???

This whole refrain we hear now from the Democrats and the Republicans, is we have tried the military option and it doesn't work -- it is such nonsense. They don't want to use the full capability of our military forces because they don't want to be condemned by the Europeans for killing too many people. They would rather have Americans killed in the long run than to face a lot of criticism from a continent that is already controlled by Islam.

When it suits al-Qaida to finally launch another domestic attack on the United States, I think it will be bigger than 9/11. I don't think we're going to see a car bomb or two. I would really worry about a place like Houston because so much of our oil is refined into gasoline there. It only has a single ship channel. It is the capital of our chemical industry and it is the hub for natural gas distribution.

I would also be concerned about some kind of nuclear attack, a dirty bomb likely, an actual nuclear explosion, not out of the realm of possibility. The president has invested heavily in the so-called surge. Unless it is accompanied by big time shock and awe it will not prove effective. The military is not in the business of building nations. If you point them in the direction of our enemy, they will break things, kill our enemy, blow things up, and then they will come home.

If you try to hold and defeat a country that's bigger than California with 160,000 troops with rules of engagement that make our soldiers targets, instead of killers, you are going to lose. History never changes.

If our government knew the art of war a little bit better, they would know that things are not as complicated as our leaders like make them out to be. If you don't kill your enemy, he is going to kill you, simple as that. If you don't operate from that platform, you have lost before you have started. Especially with this enemy…

I don’t think it is because we're a weak country, but because this enemy can be deceivingly overpowering. Moreover, we're still behaving as if these guys are on the lunatic fringe of the Muslim world; and that there is a low enough number of them that we can bring them to justice in a matter of a short time; and more importantly, I think the issue of being cognizant of the fact that at the very foundation of this enemy’s religion is to eventually conquer and control the world, is crucial. Until we have a discussion and understand the Islamic theocracy, we are not in a position to attack this enemy and stop them.

President Bush's White House Counter Terrorism advisor said recently that the terrorists are determined to figure out a way to launch a mass casualty spectacular event in the United States, "so we work everyday to make sure that doesn't happen.” What about the average working stiff American citizen who scratches his head and rejoins, "If you are working so hard, why are the borders still wide open?"

There's almost a generational failure in our governing elite. They talk a good talk about believing that the threat is genuine but I wonder if they really do.

We haven't done the basic things that were needed on 9/11 to protect Americans to the greatest extent possible. That's domestic border control, not for any racist reason or anti-immigrant reasons but to give law enforcement a chance to find out who is in the country without a pool of illegals that increases by the hour.

The president says we have spent tens of billions of dollars on fancy gadgetry for our border crossing points, so we are safer. Well, that assumes that al-Qaida is stupid and [will] walk in with an al-Qaida T-shirt carrying a suitcase with a nuclear symbol, and having a bandoleer of bullets around their chest and say here I am at Miami International.

They are not going to come in that way. They are going to surreptitiously come across our border and they are going to come in through a port.

As long as things are going to go their way, an attack would be superfluous, and it would also rally people to the government. That's one of the reasons why we haven't seen things like what has gone on in London.

London is serving as a handy surrogate for us – they can make their point in London without upsetting the big apple cart. Also, I think we forget sometimes that in many ways Britain is as hated as we are because of the colonial period in the Middle East, but they're just not the big boys on the block anymore.

If they wanted to do the car bombings, the mall shoot-ups, Pizza Hut bombings, that kind of thing could be done in our country very easily. They have for the most part made a conscious decision not to do those kinds of small attacks.

Bin laden gave a speech or a statement in November of 2001 and he said basically: We don't have to do anything else to the Americans regarding their domestic society. They are going to strangle their own society. They will eat away at their civil liberties. They'll become divisive within.

The point is very well taken. History is a big thing in understanding where we are and where we are going. He is very conscious of our history. It's a very dangerous situation because we're really flying blind…

The National Intelligence Estimate doesn't offer Mr. Bush and the administration very much. In fact, it's got to give them a lot of heartburn.

The Muslims have always said that the Americans will be easier than the Soviets because they are soft. They have no patience. And they won't use the power that the American people have bought for the military. So far they have been dead on about that.

THE BOTTOM LINE: We started the war in Iraq with “shock and awe” overwhelming odds. This, by the way is the proper way to fight a war. When we rode into Baghdad we acted like we were riding into Berlin and the war was over. Well the war wasn’t over and unless we go back to fighting the war and put all the politics on the back burner I am afraid this will drag out until we give up. We started aggressively but are now for the most part on the defensive.

The sad thing about this is: we have taken this defensive position because of the new politically correct religion in Washington. One simply cannot be tolerant or benevolent when fighting a war of survival. Hopefully before we are attacked again, we will get serious about fighting this war and at the same time recognize that this enemy is also infiltrating this country. Islam is like opening a can of worms or a Pandora’s Box, while trying to put them back in here they are climbing out there. Just because we are fighting them in Iraq and Afghanistan we cannot for one moment think they will not eventually attack us here at home.

A country has no business going to war until it has first secured its own borders…
