FREEDOM

How Does One know If One Is Free?

We used to define freedom by…, well, by definition. However, we may now only be able to define freedom by comparison.

We used to have freedom of speech; now, even our thoughts are regulated, we have the food police, if we say anything that might offend anyone we could be charged a hate crime, if we wear a piece of clothing that someone finds offensive we are told that we must remove it or face expulsion what ever that means. If we fly the wrong flag in the wrong place or at the wrong time, we might be accused of violating someone’s civil rights, and find ourselves in court. If we pray in a public place, we are accused of violating the Separation of Church and State law. You know; I have never been able to find that illusive law, oh well; it must be somewhere right?

It use to be, that we were concerned with the crime someone may have committed; but now we are only concerned with what the perpetrator was thinking at the time of the crime, i.e. was it a hate crime? We must wear a seat belt and a brain bucket and be strapped in a carrier in the backseat; we can’t wear a tee shirt that has a picture of a gun on it, or defend our own lives even in the face of imminent danger, even if you are a cop it my not be politically correct to do so.

We can no longer eat transfats. We must eat Omega 3’s. We can’t eat tuna, because it may have mercury in it, or use lead paint, asbestos or DDT. Mac Donald’s must serve garden Salads and Wall-Mart must provide health Insurance and a battery of other benefits, one cannot work for less the minimum wage. We must use MTBE instead of lead in our gasoline or in our bullets, we can’t use lacquer paint, instead we must use an approved paint so toxic that one whiff can cause liver damage. Our children cannot play at recess because they might get hurt; instead they face arrest by the obesity police because of lack of exercise.

We can’t teach Christianity in our schools but we can teach Darwinism or how to be a Muslim, Nazi, or a Socialist and you must feed your children Ritalin (Methylphenidate) an extreemly dangerous drug that turns the little people into zombi's so that it is easyier to brainwash them and has killed some children, if parents refuse, the Child protection agency will take them away and put them in and institution for their own safety. In Addition in California if a parent spanks his child he could find himself in jail for child abuse. We have the speech police, the thought police, the food police, the prayer police, and the enviro-police. We cannot smoke a cigar or anything else for that matter, alone, inside our own home.

While our backs were turned listening to the irresponsible pro-choice people about a woman’s right to choose, all the rest of us, seem to have lost the right to choose what to wear what to think what to eat what to drive, how to raise our kids, what to say, when or where to pray or how much Co2 we can exhale.

There is a Bill right now floating around the House of Representatives Introduced by Nancy Pelosi, that if passed will do away with the last part of the First Amendment completely, the part that says: “to Petition the Government for a redress of grievances”. One will not be able to contact their representatives, in other words no more representation in this Democracy. How long do you think freedom will last in America or anywhere else for that Matter??? Oh well, Most of us don’t exercise our Right of Redress anyway. That reminds me of something my Daddy use to say: “Son, if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it”, in this case it may have been a prophecy.

But we still live in a free country right? I think one would have a difficult time selling the idea of freedom in America by definition anymore. But if we use the example of freedom by comparison, I think we still may have a case. In other words, do we have more freedom than, lets say, Communist China? Well, one would hope so… Do we have more freedom than Rwanda or Darfur or Iran? Well of course we do, but does that mean that we are still free to make our own choices? Yes, if you choose from what is left, after the government gets finished regulating away most of our choices. One day we will wake up and find that our Government has relieved us of the burden of making any choices at all. I mean how many choices do we have left? Do you think they will stop this incremental crawl toward oppression and tyranny? No, why would they? Especially when we continue to enable them by ignoring them and thinking, oh well, this is still the freest nation in the world right? Yes, but for how long???

While I understand that some of these taboos are suppose to be for our own safety, I often wonder how we ever survived without them. I remember driving my Dad’s car when I was only four years old, sitting on my Dads lap with no seat belt, parish the thought, and playing kick ball, a thing of the past, or eating lima beans with hot bacon grease poured over the top, I think that is a death sentence now.

I remember riding on the handle bars of my uncle’s bike without a helmet and getting my foot caught in the spokes and ripping most of the hide off of my ankle and foot. I remember playing foot ball in a schoolyard again without a helmet, and after catching a pass while running backwards I turned around only to come to an abrupt stop against an eight inch thick steel basketball pole, after waking up I was told that I broke my nose and had a concussion, or as a kid walking on a construction site, stepping on a nail and looking at it sticking out through the top of my foot, sometimes we paid for our choices.

THE BOTTOM LINE: The point being, there was a time that we were still free to make our own choices, right or wrong, good or bad. “If we sacrifice freedom in trade for safety, we deserve neither”. I think someone important in history said that once.

We used to learn from our mistakes of making bad choices. As our choices are depleted we learn less and less, maybe that is why we have a growing society of ignoramuses.

How much longer are we going to drink this liberal Kool aid and watch our freedom incrementally and surreptitiously be deluded and our country turned into a police State???

Haven’t we sat in the bleachers long enough letting the left wing liberal socialist despots liquefy our once solid freedom and watch it drain right out through our fingers???

Why not take your Congressman to lunch; wear your helmets, and buy him some organic lettuce picked by someone that will do the work Americans won’t do…
